A Flood of Nothing

Fri Nov 4, 2005, 7:22 PM
Short update of my life: living semi-independently on a college campus is amazing. Why didn't I do this before?

I'm participating in NaNoWriMo, which is short for National Novel Writing Month. It's a challenge to write a 50,000 word short novel in the month of November. I'm doing it purely for the fun and sake of doing it. To complete it, you have to average 1,667 words a day, and I've been keeping with that, and have written 6,700 words so far.

I have never written anything longer than 9 pages, and that was an extreme exception to the rule. I've never felt I could develop an idea or plot or characters, but I think I'm doing it. Sure, I don't plan on being a professional writer, which is all the more reason to do it. Whether it's the best short novel ever written or a complete piece of crap doesn't matter to me.

Still, I plan on participating in NaNoEdMo (National Novel Ending Month) in March, where the idea is to spend about 90 hours in the month to edit what you've written in November. I don't think I'll adhere strictly to the goal of 90 hours, but I'll be glad to revise everything.

What this means: either in December or April, there will be a shitload of submissions. That is, if I complete this thing. It depends on if I still like the idea by the middle of the month, and if not, then it was a good run. If I do comlete, I might attempt to do some work on it in the latter half of November and the first half of December and start editing it. Who knows?

I hope I can complete this thing.

Hi. Thank you so much for the favourites on my photos.

On another note, congratulations upon starting college early. A lot of people regard college as the last step before deciding what to do for the rest of their lives but it is also a chance to find out what you really and I mean REALLY don't want to do for the rest of your life as well. You have a lot more time to decide upon what to do than the average person so enjoy it. Play around and find what you truly like and can devote your whole life to it.
